Understanding the 12 Houses

The 12 Houses represent different aspects making up our individual selves. For example, you might be born in the sign of Aries, but your 1st House (the house of self & identity) might have been positioned in Gemini. This position will have an impact on your self and identity that may be much different from the general descriptions of Aries.

Each of the 12 Houses of the Zodiac are broken up into Quadrants as we have seen above. Each of these quadrants has a meaning in astrology and help to make up your Personal & Social identities as well as your Personal & Social Expressions.

The following is a breakdown of the quadrants and what aspects of ourselves and our lives they represent.

Quadrant 1 - Personal Identity

The first quadrant is related to youth, beginnings, our childhoods, how we come to see ourselves from our exploration of the world around us. In this quadrant, we are developing our basic identities and who we are as well as what we think, feel and how we behave before we are put into roles of society and expectation.

The first quadrant is our wild natures from birth and helps establish our immediate identities that are not yet influenced by society, expectations, ambitions, or relationships with others. This is our childlike quadrants that focus on our senses, our ability to learn and understand all that is surrounding us, and it allows us to educate ourselves on the skills that will give us what we want throughout our lives.

Within quadrant one are Houses 1 through 3 which are identified by the planetary positions of our birth in explaining these aspects of our personal identities. The 1st House is our Self & Identity (I AM), the 2nd House is our Value & Money (I HAVE), and the 3rd House is our Environment & Communication (I THINK).

Quadrant 2 - Personal Expression

As the first quadrant ends at our exploration of our personal identities, we begin to see our foundations taking form in the second quadrant. The second quadrant is related to our home lives, roots, our patterns of behavior and unconscious patterns that underlie how we express ourselves to others.
